NEWBORN FAQ

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK MY NEWBORN PHOTO SHOOT?

Many expectant parents book their newborn baby photography session soon after their 20 week scan some parents wait until baby has arrived. This often means my diary is booked up in advance. When you book your newborn baby photography session, I pencil your due date in my diary and leave enough space free a few weeks either side of your due date to ensure we can book you in once your new baby safely arrives. I offer an incentive discount off my booking fee if you book your session before you are 28 weeks.

WHAT AGE IS BEST FOR A NEWBORN SESSION?

Your new baby will be very sleepy between feeds and to allow them to be handled safely, they have lots of soft cartilage between their bones. This means your newborn will easily fall into those beautiful curled up poses you see in my portfolio. Often, when carefully placed in my wraps and props, your baby will relax into the position they took up inside you. How amazing is it to be able to capture that!

As your baby grows and develops they will spend less time asleep between feeds, and they will be gradually ‘uncurling’. Usually by the time they are 3 or 4 weeks old, the newborn phase has passed. For this reason I suggest your newborn baby photography session takes place when your baby is between 4 and 14 days old.

MY BABY IS NOW OLDER THAN 14 DAYS, IS THIS TOO OLD FOR A NEWBORN PHOTO SHOOT?

Babies grow and change so quickly, don’t worry if your baby is now past the newborn stage, we can capture their cute little smiles, chubby little chops and really start to see their character develop. I often photograph babies that are older newborns. It is still possible to get lovely images of your new baby, the only difference is they are likely to be more alert during the session, which means I capture most photographs of baby awake. That being said all babies are different. So please do get in touch if your baby is an older newborn (3 to 6 weeks).

Around 4 months is a great age for the next stage in your babies portraits. Or you can wait until around 8 months when your baby will just about be at the sitting stage for super cute images!

WHERE WILL MY SESSION TAKE PLACE?

I am Newborn Photographer based in Accrington, Lancashire. Photographing Newborn babies throughout the North West including, Manchester, the Ribble Valley and West Yorkshire. Your newborn baby photography session will take place in the comfort of your own home. Travel within 15 miles is included in the session price.

HOW LONG WILL THE SESSION TAKE?

New babies are all different, therefore I work to your babies pace. I want your little precious bundle of joy to be relaxed, snugly and asleep. Its a relaxing time for you all, so please sit back and enjoy your newborn baby photography session. On average sessions can take between 2 to 4 hours.

CAN WE ALSO HAVE FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS DURING THE SESSION?

Of course, family images are so important. Your little family should all be apart of your newborn baby photography session and have those memories of you all together! Please advise me if you are wanting to involve other children in the session. Younger kids especially can get a little bored watching their new little brother or sister sleep, so it can be good to have both parents present to watch the kids or take them out to the park while we can spend some time with your new baby.

CAN WE BUY DIGITAL PHOTOS?

After the newborn baby photography session you will get a password protected gallery containing approx 25 fully edited images. From this gallery you can choose to purchase and download individual digital images. I also offer full collections via a digital download with printing rights, please ask if this is something you would like to purchase.
